Melissa is a native Houstonian who received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston before attending Rutgers School of Law. At Rutgers, Melissa had the unique opportunity to study law abroad under the late Supreme Court Chief Justice, William H. Rehnquist. Melissa participated in the Jessup International Moot Court Team and the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Team, which traveled to Vienna, Austria to compete with schools from around the world. After law school, Melissa clerked in New Jersey district court. Since returning to Houston, Melissa has been practicing bankruptcy law in the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas. After several years at large firms, she co-founded Valdez & Paré LLP.
Melissa has over 7 years experience in representing debtors in all stages of chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcies. Melissa is active in continuing legal education for practicing lawyers and teaches Continuing Legal Education courses in topics such as "Introduction to Bankruptcy" and "Chapter 7 101." Melissa believes in making a commitment to her clients to continuously strive for the best outcome for them.
